San Miguel de Allende
Countryside living beside the Sanctuary of Atotonilco, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
About Atotonilco
Atotonilco is the rural community north of San Miguel de Allende that surrounds the Sanctuary of Atotonilco, the eighteenth-century church inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List together with San Miguel in 2008. The sanctuary’s painted interiors have earned it the nickname the Sistine Chapel of Mexico.
Real estate here is mostly land and country homes: larger parcels, ranch-style houses and some newer developments taking advantage of the flat terrain and views toward the hills. The area is also known for its thermal springs, and several hot-spring destinations sit nearby.
Atotonilco suits buyers who want acreage or a country home within a reasonable drive of San Miguel, with a World Heritage landmark as a neighbor.
